Linear Technology Corporation announces the LTC4071, an easy-to-use, thin parallel battery system for lithium-ion / polymer batteries that integrates charger and battery pack protection in an IC. With its operating current of only 550nA, the LTC4071 provides charge and protection for the battery with a very low current, intermittent or continuous charging power that can not be used in the past. The LTC4071 is capable of charging the battery at up to 50mA. The device has a low battery power latching function that is close to zero current (<0.1nA), and even avoids deep discharge of low-capacity batteries and potentially irreparable damage. The LTC4071 is housed in a flat (only 0.75mm) 8-pin 2mm x 3mm DFN package and is the only complete and ultra-compact battery charger and protection solution available in the market with a low power stage power supply. The device has many features that are suitable for high-impedance and low-power charging power applications such as energy extraction / collection, resistive isolation, or solar powered systems. The LTC4071 has a pin selectable 4.0V, 4.1V or 4.2V set, and its accuracy of 1% of the battery float voltage allows the user to achieve the best balance between battery capacity and lifetime. Independent high battery monitoring status output indicates that the battery is near full charge. The internal battery calorimeter reduces the float voltage to protect the lithium ion / polymer battery when the battery temperature rises. By configuring multiple LTC4071 ICs in series, the battery packs of multiple cells can be charged and balanced.
In addition to the compact 2mm x 3mm 8-lead DFN package, the LTC4071 is available in an 8-lead MSOP package. These devices are specified to operate over the -40 ° C to 125 ° C temperature range. The E-class versions of the DFN and MSOP packages are priced at $ 2.20 and $ 2.30 each in 1,000-unit quantities. The I-Class versions of the DFN and MSOP packages are priced at $ 2.53 and $ 2.65 each.
